FABULOUS RECYCLED CREATIONS
The Pukeko team has been lucky to have had visits this term from Kaye of Zero Waste, who has been teaching us all about re-using
objects in new ways, as a way to reduce or avoid waste. One of the
awesome activities we did was design our own creation using re-used
materials, such as plastic milk bottles, cans, old bottle lids, etc. We
had such fun planning and making our creations! What do you think of the
end results?
Look at this great pig, designed and made by William. |
Jess was thrilled with her fun creation! |
Ruby loves the superb lion she has designed. |

Masterchef Fun!
On Friday, children were able to come to school dressed up with Masterchef theme. There were
lots of aprons and spatulas and whisks. Some children went all out with their costumes and looked as if they really belongs in a professional kitchen, with people saying "Yes, chef" to them!

Zero Waste
Kay Marsh visited us from the City Council to help us explore how we can reduce our rubbish.
An old pair of jeans turned into a bag! Imagine a library book bag made out of your old jeans!
Kay told us that for all the rubbish created by all us New Zealanders for 1 month it could fill one rugby field wide
and 30 stories high! That is a lot of rubbish!!
How do you reduce rubbish at your home? Comment below to go in the draw for 2 KC coupons, 1 team player and 1 thinker!

Making things with clay in LC2
Mackenzie Hoskins said, "I did a plaque of Geronimo Stilton. I like the glasses on him and how they stuck on. I like how I etched the name in too." |
Mia Chee-Quill said, "I made a cat because I like cats. It turned out how I wanted it to be. I especially like its face. I like doing stuff which clay because it's fun." |
We have been doing this on Wednesday afternoons with Mrs Johnson.
We looked on the internet at different things you could do with clay.
We had a go at using different clay-working techniques such as etching, layering and pinching.
We made coil pots and we made tiles.
We really like making things with clay and had lots of fun.
Here are photos of some of our work.

Let the battle begin!
Our Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) help organise, promote and ref games for us to play at long plays on Wednesdays. The latest activity was Battle of the Whanau. There was egg and spoon, sack races and the final leg was a 3 legged race.
Here are some snap shots of the Year 1-4 races.
Leave a comment telling us what games or activities you would like the PALs to play.

Rob the nest hockey style
As part of interchange children have been learning how to strike (hit) with a stick.
Hockey is a relatively new skill to most of the Pukeko children.
Children were checking their buddies were using correct grip, making eye contact and stepping forward to push the ball to their partner. Peer assessment is a great tool to help remind the 'assessor' what they need to do.
