THE PUPPET LADY

On Tuesday 11 December, Juliet Neil cam to visit the Pukeko team. She put on a puppet play about Peter Rabbit, using puppets she had made. She had puppets for Peter Rabbit, Mrs Rabbit, Mr McGregor and Mrs McGregor. The puppet play was funny! She also showed us some awesome puppets she had made. There were string puppets and glove puppets and paper plate puppets and stick puppets. One was a bit flying dinosaur with wings that moved. On was a Chinese dragon, One was a human-sized lady called Daphne and some of us got to try her out. We really enjoyed seeing Juliet and her puppets.

The Great Pukeko Geography Challenge

Last term, the Pukeko team children studied world geography. The term's studies culminated in a very exciting geography quiz in the last week of term.
Three finalists from each class were selected for the final, after class run-offs. The LC9 finalists were Caitlyn Parrett, Dwight Felipe and Ben Harrison, the LC 2 finalists were Chelsea Parrett, Toby Blain and Louis Frew and the LC1 finalists were Charlie Marr, Wilson House and Max Spence.
In the grand final, children had to identify flags of countries, state capital cities, state continents and label locations on a map.
The grand final winner was Louis Frew, with Chelsea Parrett second and Charlie Marr third.
Congratulations to these fantastic winners. And congratulations also to all the Pukeko team children who took time to study and improve their geography skills.

Did you know that last term, every class in the Pukeko Team made 3-D relief paper mache pukeko? We got the idea from Fiona Gunn and she was very helpful. Now they are up in our classrooms and we think they look great! Below is a photostory explaining how we made them.

SKIPPING, SKIPPING AND MORE SKIPPING

You may have noticed that we have been doing lots of skipping lately. It’s lots of fun to get out in the sun in the middle of the day and try new skills with a skipping rope. Some of us have made amazing improvements on our co-ordination and we can do so many different kinds of skipping: long ropes, backwards, crossover, fast, slow and even skipping with a buddy – two of us on one rope! Mr D had a go one day but it really is not very good for his leg! We like it when we have competitions and see who is the fastest or who can go the longest.
