CREATIVE COSTUMES

On Friday, a group of Pukeko team children took part in a fun and creative technology challenge as part of their strategic problems solving learning.

The children worked in groups of four to design an original costume, which had to be modelled by one of them. each group had only six pieces of newspaper, sticky tape and scissors. The design brief stated that the costume had to have a top and a bottom part, or be all in one, there had to be a hat and there had to be an accessory, of the group's choice.

As you can see from the photos, the variety of thinking, planning, teamwork and creativity that went into this challenge was phenomenal! LC1 and LC2 were a buzz of focused activity, as children from across the Pukeko team got stuck it.  It was a fun and creative afternoon for all!

RIMU TEAM PARENT INFORMATION EVENING

We had an excellent evening on Tuesday 12 May, with a good number of parents along on a cold night to hear about life in the Rimu team.
Thanks very much to those of you who made it - we hope you found the presentation informative and helpful.
For those of you who were unable to attend, there will be an information booklet coming home today or tomorrow, covering what was presented at the meeting. There is also a copy of this uploaded to the school website under Pukeko team notices.

There will also be a copy of the Rimu team timetable pasted in children's diaries (we did indicate that it would be in the booklet, but this is not so!)

Camp Fun Term 1

Camp Fun

Year 4 

On Wednesday 4 March all of the Year Fours went on camp and before we left  we went to the Wharenui  and we lined up in our class lines and we also said good bye  to our mum's and dad's and then we left on the bus. It took half an hour to get to Pegasus then we got off the bus and had morning tea. After that we walked to Woodend and that took 1 hour to get there then we arrived at Woodend and when we got there we did our first activity and then the day after Thursday we went home and my favourite part was the climbing wall and then we went home.   

Year 3 

On Thursday 5 March the Year 3’s had a camp while the Year 4’s went to Woodend. The first thing they did was setting up the tents. Then they went outside to play abit of soccer and it was a draw and the score was 15 all. After they played soccer they went into the Wharenui and they played Indians and tepees. After they played the games they had a snack and after that they played spotlight. It was then time for bed. In the morning they had breakfast and after they had their breakfast some parents put the tents down and in the morning they also played another game of tepees and Indians. Then 30 minutes later it was school time. Later on in the day they had a pool party and then in the afternoon they watched a movie then it was home time.

TECHNOLOGY MADNESS

Have you ever wondered how you could get a raw egg to survive a high fall with only some paper, a plastic bag, a piece of cardboard, a little bit of string and some sticky tape to stop it going splat?!

Around fifty Pukeko team students worked in teams this afternoon to share ideas and try out their grand designs for the Amazing Egg Drop. They worked with great communication, focus and teamwork to develop ideas and create their designs in a tight timeframe. Mrs Jenkins and Ms McKendry were very impressed with their sense of purpose and on-task co-operation.

Two teams out of the twelve had success, with their eggs intact at the end of the grand drop. Check out the photos below to see what a great time we had.

PUKEKO PRESENTS IN THE PORTACOM

Today we had our first Pukeko Presents get-together in the portacom. it was run by the Ngaio community and Mrs Jackson ad Ms Riley were the special guests. Mrs Jackson gave out the KC certificate awards and Ms Riley drew the KC coupons for Picnic with the Principal.

RIMU TEAM PARENT MEETING

To all parents of children in the Rimu team (LC1, LC2 and LC18):

We cordially invite you to meet with the Rimu team teachers on Tuesday 12 May from 7-8pm in LC18 (the new portacoms on the far side of the school).

We will introduce ourselves and talk about the programmes we are providing and the learning we are engaged in with your children this year.

ANZAC DAY LEARNING

This week in the PUKEKO team, we have bee learning about what ANZAC Day is and why it is so special.
In some classes, we looked at photos from Gallipoli and thought what it would be like to be there as a soldier. We thought it might be scary and hot. There would be lots of flies and it might be very noisy from the rifles and field guns. There wasn't much water so you would probably get very thirsty and you wouldn't be able to wash very often. You might be scared of getting killed because lots of soldiers were killed.
