On Friday May 6th, 25 children participated in the annual Rugby Funday tournament, again held at the Burnside Rugby Club.  West Melton took two teams to this event.  One team was coached by Barry Ward and managed by Karen Heiler.  They managed to win 2 out of their 3 games and were very impressive with some skilful tries being scored.  They second team was coached by Mike Johnston and managed by Emma Smith.  They also had similar results with 2 wins and a loss.  Unfortunately for them their loss game after the siren had gone.

One of the highlights for me, was again the amount of girls that decided to play.  Some of who had never played rugby before.  The were all very determined and in a lot of cases showed the boys how to play.  Special thanks to all players, coaches, managers and parents for supporting this event.

Charlotte's Web Chapter Chat NZ

In Ti Kouka this term we have joined an online group called Chapter Chat NZ. We meet on Friday mornings on Twitter to talk about the book we are all reading this term - Charlotte's Web by E.B White.

Chapter Chat NZ is organised by a teacher in Palmerston North and there are schools from all over New Zealand. It is great to talk to other kids about their ideas. Here are some of our tweets:

You can read more about Chapter Chat and see more of our tweets, and others, by searching #ChapterChatNZ on Twitter!

Super Heroes in the Ngaio Community

'Power Up - My Super Powers'

In the Ngaio Community we had to first identify some cartoon super heroes. We were looking at their characteristics and what they do to help others. The class then looked at how they could be superheroes at school using the West Melton KC Kids and Driver. Everyone put a list together about the things that they do and then we wrote an individual word down. Everyone used really amazing illustrations for their words. We would like to share some of these superhero words with you:
Welcoming, Believe in Yourself, Be Happy, Kind, Being Nice, Strong and Never Quits.
