Wet days can be fun!

Cam and Ryan are learning how to play Mancala. Some strategy is needed to get gems (or marbles) into your pot. You want as many in your pot to win. The game ends when one side has emptied all their holes.

We love dressing up, even our wet day buddies joined in. They didn't need much encouragement.

Rugby Funday

On Friday 17th May the Year 4's went to Rugby Funday at the Ilam University grounds.  West Melton Blue was coached by Gavin Summerfield and managed by Andrea Wright and managed a win, a loss and a draw.  The West Melton Yellow was coached by John Beuth and managed by Amanda Sharpe.  We just got finished before the rain.  Special thanks to all the parents who showed up to support the teams.

Shaping up

Jack has learnt about negative and positive space. Negative space is the background or the outside of a shape.

Blake thought it was fun drawing different type of lines and using a vivid to draw over them.

Alexandra enjoyed drawing 3D shapes then using a vivid to outline her shapes.

Daisy has learnt how to draw 3D shapes using lines to show a shape is real.

Art interchange

Every afternoon Pukekos have interchange. This is an opportunity for the children to learn and discover new learning areas.

In art the children have been learning about the elements of art. Using a variety of mediums the children are able to describe and explain what type of lines they have used in their art.

Hazel said "I have vertical lines in my heart."
Jorja has used thick lines to make a different coloured rainbow.
Daniel told us that a triangle has diagonal and horizontal lines.
Arjana was explaining that she used wavy lines to make a frame and peace signs using diagonal and vertical straight line.

Hooray, hooray, it's Mothers' Day!

The children of LC2 and their Mothers' Day cards
The Pukeko team children from LC2 made cards for their mums for Mothers' Day. They drafted and published a letter to their mum and pasted it inside a card with their photo and decorations on the outside. We hope you enjoy the cards and have a lovely Mothers' Day, mums!
